The process of certifying a document

Photocopy the document that needs certifying, take the photocopy and the original to the person that you’ve selected to certify the document. They will need to:

Take the photocopied document and the original and ask the person to certify the photocopy by:

  • writing ‘Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me’ on the photocopied document
  • sign and date the photocopy
  • printing their name under the signature on the photocopy and adding their address, telephone number and occupation
